After
leaving Q94 in Bakersfield,
I initially wound up on the air in Los Angeles doing traffic
reports for major stations such as KNX, KMPC and KLAC.
I also did the same for a station in suburban Orange County,
KWIZ-FM. 'Quiz' in Santa Ana, CA had been one of the earliest
stations in the area but for most of its existence was overshadowed
by Top 40, KEZY in Anaheim.
Program
Director, Chris Cox hired me for utility air work based
on his familiarity with my doing traffic reports for the
station every day. I'm sure neither one of us had any inclination
at the time that I would be the last person he hired and
that I would be the last person on the air before ownership
dropped its Adult Contemporary format to go Korean!
Not
being fluent in that language, I signed off the station
with Don McLean's, 'American Pie' with a tear in my eye
(if not my beer). My time at KWIZ turned out to be very
beneficial however as Chris Cox would go on to become the
Program Director of none other than KEZY
where he also hired me!
